Making better decisions with economic thinking: Public sector economics for managers

How does economics shape the world in which you work? Understanding the economics behind regulation, policy and programs allows you to make better choices, allocate scarce resources more effectively, and spot the flaws in economic arguments used by others.

As your management career evolves it will be important to have a skill set that empowers you to make a persuasive case and better decisions in these scenarios - knowing the economic basis of policy is vital to help you to craft the best policies possible, define the rationale behind them and finally, put them into action in.

Griffith University’s Professor Ross Guest leads this practical course which explores public sector interventions, regulations and programs in a broad range of portfolio areas including public health, the environment, infrastructure, energy, economic development, education, housing, labour regulation and social justice.

The course features contemporary and important public sector issues and real case studies covering topics such as: climate change, public infrastructure, social welfare, health and education, industry and labour regulation, taxation and other government funding options.

Professor Guest is a nationally and internationally recognised leader in economics education, having received several awards and fellowships for learning and teaching in economics. He has taught in ANZSOG programs for almost two decades, including ANZSOG’s highly respected Executive Master of Public Administration.
