The Australia and New Zealand School of Government Limited – ANZSOG – was established in 2002 by a consortium of governments, universities and business schools as a not-for-profit public company limited by guarantee.
The Board of Directors has overall responsibility for the organisation, setting direction and overseeing the effectiveness of delivery against strategy.

The Board can establish its own committees from time to time and currently has four committees.
Committee membership comprises Board Directors and individuals who bring relevant expertise to the Committee’s deliberations in providing advice to the Board.

Foundation and Investment Committee – providing advice to the Board and oversight of the School’s Foundation Trust and investment portfolio.
Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee – providing oversight of the School’s financial strategy and audit and risk functions, and recommending appropriate actions to the Board.
People and Remuneration Committee – comprises a small group of Directors only to oversee the performance of the School’s CEO and Dean.
Academic Board – providing advice to the Board on ANZSOG programs with particular regard to issues of academic accountability and quality assurance.

Deloitte have been ANZSOG’s external auditors since 2013, with the previous auditors, KPMG having undertaken audit services for the ten years prior. Deloitte provide statutory audit services in accordance with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission Act 2012 and all applicable accounting standards.
In 2016, ANZSOG appointed Grant Thornton as internal auditors following the retirement of the School’s previous internal auditor. Grant Thornton provide assurance services across the School’s operations, consistent with our risk framework, seeking to ensure the School maintains better practice across its operations.
ANZSOG is incorporated in Australia under the Corporations Act 2001 as a company limited by guarantee and is an income tax exempt charity. ANZSOG operates under a Constitution approved by all current member universities and governments.

ANZSOG’s Alumni Advisory Council was appointed in 2018 to represent our 3500-strong alumni and give them a greater involvement in ANZSOG’s activities and the chance to advise on our future direction.
The Council’s objectives are to build a strong, engaged and cohesive alumni community, and foster two-way communication between alumni and the ANZSOG executive, and between alumni and public services.

The Research Committee, led by Chair Professor Glyn Davis, provides ANZSOG management with independent external advice on overall research priorities for the ANZSOG research model. Its responsibilities are to; provide strategic intelligence and advice to the CEO and management team to support the objective of ANZSOG’s Research and Advisory model, to determine the research priorities and to track, at a high-level, the implementation of the research model and its impact.

In 2021, ANZSOG established a Research Network with representatives of the public service commissions and/or central agencies of all 10 member governments. The purpose of the network is to provide a forum to discuss demand for research from governments, strengthen the interface between practice and research, and identify opportunities for collaboration on shared research questions on public administration. The Research Network plays a critical role in supporting ANZSOG’s research model and the development of a national public sector evidence base.

ANZSOG is partnering with a range of applied public policy institutes and graduate public policy schools across Australia and New Zealand in the ANZSOG research model.
We have formed an informal panel arrangement for testing expressions of interest into undertaking public administration/public management research projects funded by ANZSOG and sponsoring governments.
