Due to the changing situation relating to the response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), ANZSOG’s International programs have been deferred. The health and wellbeing of participants, faculty and staff is paramount, as such we have come to this decision based on publicly available information relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, and its potential implications for participants, faculty and staff. ANZSOG’s China Reciprocal Program (CRP) is a two-week intensive in-country program that provides an opportunity for Australia and Aotearoa-New Zealand senior public officials to gain a deeper understanding of China. The program introduces participants to senior Chinese officials and explores information, ideas, values and beliefs with a focus on the Chinese system of government, including politics, the economy, and key contemporary issues such as the environment, industry and social policy. Participants visit several cities in China, providing contrast and demonstrating degrees of development and diversity.

The visit gave me a real understanding of how different China’s culture and economy is to ours and the huge long-term opportunities for Australian agriculture, education and tourism. Seeing the widespread use of social media and the internet, through companies such as Weibo and Alibaba is also eye-opening.

The China Advanced Leadership Program (CALP) is an annual three-week program for Chinese officials, delivered in Australia and Aotearoa-New Zealand. The aim of the program is to develop productive relationships between high level public officials of Australia, Aotearoa-New Zealand and China. The program been operational since 2011.
